 Biography :

Dr. Vadim Bolshakov is an Associate Professor of neuroscience, with extensive training and expertise in key research areas closely related to this application, such as whole-cell patch-clamp recordings in brain slices. He received postdoctoral training at Columbia University in the area of hippocampal synaptic plasticity. After joining McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School, He continued his studies of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of synaptic transmission and plasticity at central synapses. Using a combination of electrophysiological, cell biological, and molecular-genetic techniques, He extended his research efforts to the amygdala, a brain structure critically involved in fear-related behaviors. These studies identified several mechanisms of pathway specificity of lasting synaptic modifications in fear conditioning circuits helping to maintain functional independence of the convergent inputs. The current proposal is logically linked to his prior work on neuronal mechanisms in the amygdala, as well as on the mechanisms of neurotransmission and plasticity at amygdalar synapses.
