Dr.Ahmed Hassanein is the Paul L.Wattelet Professor and Head of School of Nuclear Engineering and director of CMUXE at Purdue University. Prof. Hassanein has more than 3 years of experience in research and development in the fields of nuclear and plasma physics, engineering, and material science. Prof. Hassanein is nationally and internationally recognized as one of the world\\\\s fore most leaders in the area of modeling and benchmarking material responses to different radiation and particle sources. He developed unique models and comprehensive computer packages as well as the 
state-of-the art experimental  facilities to predict material behavior, lifetime issues, plasma evolution, and fluid hydrodynamics under various irradiation conditions. These models and results are being used in several national and international research fields. He has authored about 450 journal publications and technical report in more than 30 different national and international journals in physics, engineering, materials, and computer science. Before coming to Purdue, Prof. Hassanein was senior scientist and group leader and the director of Fusion Power Program at the Department of Energy\\\\s Argonne National Laboratory. He is fellow of SPIE, ANS, AAAS and IEEE.

 Biography :

Yu-Lung Lo received his B.S. degree from National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan, R.O.C., in 1985, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Smart Materials and Structures Research Center, University of Maryland, College Park, USA, in 1992 and 1995, respectively. After graduation, he joined the Opto-Electronics and Systems Laboratories of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), working on fiber-optic smart structures and fiber communications. He has been faculty of the Mechanical Engineering Department, NCKU, since 1996, where he is now a full professor and distinguished professor, and also an affiliate professor in Institute of Nanotechnology and Microsystem Engineering. He now is director of National Science Council (NSC) Instrument Center at NCKU.
Dr. Lo received Research Excellence in Institute of Engineering from NCKU in 2007, the First-Class Research Award from NSC in 2005/2006, A-Class Research Award by NCKU in 2006, and the Dr. Ta-You Wu Award for Young Researchers from NSC in 2002. Also, his students won Bronze Award on Competition in Mechanical Engineering Master Thesis issued by HIWIN TECHNOLOGIES CORP., World Leader in Linear Motion and Control Technology in 2006 and Golden Award on Competition in Opto-electric System Design in 2008. Dr. Lo was included in the Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering lists, and the International Directory of Distinguished Leadership.
He was invited to be an invited speaker, keynote speaker, and plenary speaker in the optics related international conferences, and also organized and chaired section of international conferences. He was chair of the technical division of optical methods from 2007 to 2008 in the Society of Experimental Mechanics (SEM) in the USA. Now he is Chairman of Asian Society of Experiment Mechanics (ASEM). He serviced Guest Editor for Journal of Experimental Mechanics, and now services Executive Editor/Associate Editor/Editorial Board Member in several international journals. His research interests include optomechatronics, experimental mechanics, fiber-optic sensors, optical techniques in precision measurements, near-field optics, and biophotonics. He has authored over 100 journal publications that are cited more than 800 times in ISI/SCI web, and has filed for several patents. Now he is member of Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM).

Dr. Luo is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT), The University of Technology, Sydney (UTS). Dr. Luo received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from "National Engineering Research Centre for CAD" (CCAD), Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China in 2005. .

In 2005, he was employed as a Lecturer in the School of Mechanical Engineering at HUST. After that, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow for 5 years in (1) The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2006, (2) The University of Sydney (USYD) from 2007 to 2009, and (3) The University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 2010. In 2011, he joined UTS as a Chancellor\s Research Fellow. Since November 2011, Dr. Luo has been with UTS as a Senior Lecturer in the disciplinary of Mechanical Engineering.

Dr. Luo has been invited to visit several universities with research seminars, such as Demark Technical University, Dalian University of Technology, Hunan University, University of Wollongong, Australian National University and HUST. He has worked as the principle researcher for over ten government-supported research projects, including one "863" High-Tech Research Program (China), one "973" National Key Fundamental Research Project (China), two National Natural-Science-Foundation of China (NSFC), and four ARC Discovery Projects. Since 2003, he has also been involved in 12 industry projects. 

He has published 46 peer-reviewed research articles in many international journals, including 35 A* and A papers (Australian ERA Ranking 2010) in leading journals, in which 3 journal papers are ranked as "SciVerse ScienceDirect Top 25 Hottest Articles". In line with his research outcomes, Dr. Luo’s H-Index is around 15 in the area of Mechanical Design as of December 2012. Dr. Luo has also successfully attracted several competitive and industrial research projects. He is a member of ASME and AIAA.

Dr. Bao Yang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland performing research in nanoengineered fluids, thermal management, thermoelectrics and renewable energy. Dr. Yang received a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1998 and another Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California Los Angeles in 2003. After a one-year Research Assistantship at MIT, Dr. Yang joined the University of Maryland in 2003. Dr. Yang currently has published three book chapters, authored thirty seven peer-reviewed journal papers, and held three patents. Dr. Yang was granted the Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award in 2004. Dr. Yang is a member of ASME, MRS, APS, ITS and AIAA.

Yun-Bo Yi is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at the University of Denver located in Denver, Colorado, U.S.A. He received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 2001. After working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Research Scientist for four more years in Michigan, he joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor at the University of Denver in 2005 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2011. His current research interest is mainly in the area of thermal-mechanical instabilities and damping in multiscale engineering structures. He is also an active researcher in numerical simulations of percolation and material properties of random fibrous, particulate and porous media. He authored and coauthored nearly 30 journal publications. He has also served as a reviewer for more ten prestigious journals.

Dr Karl D Dearn is a lecturer in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham. His principle research interest focuses on design and tribology and he has introduced and has linked multidisciplinary research areas that include engine and component lubrication and durability, the physical and chemical properties of fuels, the characterisation of polymer and polymer composite machine elements and the development of spinal implants. Dr Dearn has attracted funds from the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC), Technology Strategy Board (TSB), Royal Society, regional development and industry. Dr Dearn currently supervises 9 PhD students and 2 Research Fellows. Dr Dearn has 20 technical publications, 9 in highly esteemed peer-reviewed journals with a growing number of citations. Dr Manosh Paul is a Lecturer in Thermofluids and member of the CFD Group of Systems, Power & Energy (SPE) Research Division within the School of Engineering of the University of Glasgow. He gained his PhD in Fluid Mechanics in 2002 from the University of Bath. Subsequently, he moved to the Imperial College London and worked in the Department of Mechanical Engineering as a Research Associate until August 2003. He has first class degrees with distinctions and gold medals in both BSc honours (Mathematics) and MSc (Applied Mathematics) obtained from the University of Dhaka in 1997 and 1999 respectively. His current research is interdisciplinary and focuses on a wide range of topics within the field of Energy, Bioengineering, Thermofluids and Combustion. He is an author/co-author of over 70 peer-reviewed journal/conference papers, 2 invited book chapters, and 1 edited book; and has been recognised internationally with a number of invited talks, committee member and chair in international conferences. Dr Manosh Paul’s current research is interdisciplinary and focuses on a wide range of topics within the field of Energy, Bioengineering, Thermofluids and Combustion. He is particularly interested in the development of novel and advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques/programs and applies these to solve medical and industrially relevant problems. He is currently leading a group of researchers who are working on various multidisciplinary projects (e.g. biomass combustion, NOx and soot predictions, radiative heat transfer with LES, photovoltaic system, micro-scale heating systems, nanofluids, various bio-medical related projects, and fundamental aspects of flow stability). He has strong research collaboration with colleagues in the other research divisions and groupings across the University, other academic institutions in the UK and overseas, NHS and industries in the UK. His research is funded by the EPSRC, Royal Society, University of Glasgow, UK and Overseas Governments, and Industries.

 Dr. Zi Chen is currently a Society in Science – Branco Weiss Fellow and Research Scientist at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Chen received a BS and MS in Materials Science and Engineering from Shanghai Jiaotong University in 2002 and in 2005, and his Ph.D. from Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University in 2012.  Biography :

John S. Anagnostopoulos graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, and received his Ph.D. in Computational Fluid Mechanics from the same University in 1991. He worked for several years as research scientist in the NTUA and as R&T consultant in the private sector, where he has been involved in feasibility studies for various industrial innovations. He has participated in many research projects and developed several computer codes for the simulation of various fluid mechanisms in industrial applications (pulverized coal combustion, fouling, coal grinding, liquid fuel spray aerodynamics, electrostatic precipitation, atmospheric flows and pollutant dispersion, pollutant formation and photochemical kinetics, pulsating flows, steel continuous casting, metal thermal spraying, mechanical erosion wear, flow in centrifugal pumps and impulse hydro turbines), as well as for modelling and optimum design and operation of hydroelectric and hybrid (RES-pumped storage) energy systems. He is currently Assistant Professor in Hydraulic Turbomachines at the School of Mechanical Engineering, NTUA.

 Biography :

Kimura Hitoshi received the B.S. from the Tohoku University, Japan, in 1994, and received the MS from the Tokyo University in 1996. He received the Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan in 2004. He is currently an assistant professor in the department of Mechanical and Control Engineering at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. His research interests include robotics, mechatronics and flexible mechanisms. He proposes a unique flexible robot which has hermetically double looped structure. Flexible ciliary actuator sheet is also unique innovation. He also proposed new accelerometer examination method to detect actual sensor direction.

In 2003, Dr. Mohammad O. Hamdanreceived his PhD in the Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in theUSA. He received his MS and BSc in the Mechanical Engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology in 1999 and 1997, respectively. Currently, he isan Assistant professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the United Arab Emirates University in UAE. In late 2003, Dr. Hamdan joined Honeywell International in California as a Senior Design Engineer to analyze and evaluate the structure integrity of aircraftheat-exchanger under different thermal fatigue loads. In 2005, Dr. Hamdan moved to General Electric Research Center in New York and worked on thermal-energy management and on developing different creative solutions for different GE’s products including gas-turbine, blade cooling, nacelle thermal managements, and electronics cooling.
Dr. Hamdan is an active researcher in the area of Energy and Thermal Management. His research interests include renewable energy, solar tower, flow visualization, heat augmentation, synthetic jet, swirl cooling, micro-channel flow, phase change, loop heat pipe, vortex tube cooling, porous media, and combustion.Dr. Hamdan published more than 38articles in multiple international journals and conferences. He served as editor for special edition for Renewable Energy Journal and Journal of Applied Mechanical Engineering.

Dongming Gan received his doctorate in Mechanical Engineering in 2009 from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications based on a joint PhD program with Kings College London, supported by the China State Scholarship Fund. After getting his PhD degree, he worked for humanoid robot group in the Advanced Robotics Department at Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) as a Post-doctoral Researcher.  Biography :

Dr. S. Rajendran holds a Ph.D degree from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). Prior to his doctoral research at IISc, he was working for about 5 years as a R&D Engineer in automobile companies. After his doctoral research, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Hong Kong for a year and as a Senior Scientist (E1) at the National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore, for about 3 years. He moved to Singapore in 1998. He worked as a Senior Engineer at the Singapore Productivity and Standards Board for about 2 years, and as a Research Fellow at the Centre for Advanced Numerical Engineering Simulation, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) for about 2 years. Then he joined the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, NTU as an Assistant Professor in 2001 and is currently working as an Associate Professor. Dr Rajendran’s broad research area is computational mechanics. His primary research interests include development of mesh-distortion-tolerant finite elements, hybrid FE-meshless methods, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation of carbon nanotubes, computational methods for large eigenproblems, simulation of MEMS gyroscope, and delamination buckling of composites. He has published over 45 papers in reputed international journals and presented over 15 papers in conferences, workshops and symposiums.

Zhou Yufeng, male, was born in Nanjing, China, in 1974. He got his B.S. and M.S. degrees from National Key Lab of Modern Acoustics, Institute of Acoustics, Nanjing University, China in 1996 and 1999, respectively. He graduated from department of mechanical engineering and materials science at Duke University with PhD degree majored in Bioacoustics in 2003. Afterwards, Dr. Zhou worked for Duke University 2003-2006, ImaRx Therapeutics Inc in 2006, and University of Washington 2006-2010. Since 2010, he joined Nanyang Technological University in Singapore as an assistant professor at school of mechanical and aerospace engineering. Now he has published more than 30 papers in the peer-reviewed journals. His recent research interests are biomedical ultrasound in therapy and diagnosis, nondestructive evaluation and testing, and acoustics. Dr. Zhou is the senior member of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, editorial board member of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology, secretary of Singapore Acoustical Society.

Dr. Lianxi Zheng is a recognized expert on the synthesis and applications of nano-materials. He received his BE degree on Electronic Engineering from Southeast University in China, and his Ph.D. on Physics from The University of Hong Kong. He has worked in Los Alamos National Laboratory as a director’s postdoctoral fellow, and in CNT Technologies Inc. as a research scientist. In January 2008, he joined Nanyang Technological University. He has made many significant contributions in the area of carbon nanotube, among which is his invention of a chemical-vapor-deposition method to make word-record long (40mm) CNTs. This technology was ranked as one of the top 50 technologies that have significantly impacted, or are expected to impact, the state of the art in nanotechnology, by Nanotech Briefs (NASA’s technical magazine) in 2005.

Dr. Wong Chee How is an Assistant Professor at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) since 2008. Prior to joining NTU, he worked at Data Storage Institute, A*Star. His area of expertise is atomistic simulation of nanomaterials. In May 2009, I have joined UNITEN for a Master in Mechanical Engineering (MME) degree and worked on microscale heat transfer under Ir. Dr. Norshah Hafeez Shuaib. I have conducted research during my graduate studies on both microchannel heat sink and nanofluids. After my graduation, I begin my career with UNITEN as a Lecturer at the mechanical engineering department, college of engineering and wish to pursue Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) study in mechanical engineering. I have been worked at Intel Technology Sdn. Bhd manufacturing company as a test engineer. I’m teaching Mechanic of Fluids, Thermofluids Laboratory, Modeling and Analysis of Dynamic Systems and Mechanical Design Process to undergraduate students. Research interests involved the modeling and simulation of solidification process related to the continuous casting, conventional casting, ingot casting and other materials processing technologies such as directional solidification of polycrystalline silicon with a hundred papers published in journals. Especially, the transient transportation phenomena and thermal plastic deformation of solidified steel were concentrated by using experimental and numerical methods such as Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and Finite Element Method (FEM). Advanced technologies such as electromagnetic brake and stirring (EMBr and EMS), dynamic secondary cooling control, dynamic soft reduction during the continuous casting were investigated to prevent the solidification defects such as macro-segregation, bulging and internal crack of strand.

He received his B.S., and Ph.D. degrees from Tsinghua University in 1999, 2005. His research interests are the areas of humanoid robotics, robotic hand, robot mechanism, under-actuated grasping, robot vision, robot welding, and seam tracking. He has over 50 publications in journals and over 40 in conferences. He received five Best Paper Awards from international conferences on robotics and several educational awards from Tsinghua University. He obtained over 60 Chinese invention patents. He is a senior member of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, a member of Chinese Welding Society, a member of Editorial Board of the Inter. Journal of Precision Engineering and Manufacturing (IJPEM), and a Lead Guest Editor of the Journal of Robotics

I was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1973. I graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Seoul National University in 1996 and obtained Master degree and Ph. D. at the same department in 1998 and 2003, respectively. I entered Hyundai Motor Company R&D Center as soon as I had received Ph.D. to develop a small diesel engine installed in passenger cars. To study the impact of the diesel exhaust on the climate change, I went to Brookhaven National Laboratory and developed an instrument that could measure the light absorption from the diesel exhaust in atmosphere. After being back to my native country, South Korea, I am extending my knowledge to not only the environmental research but also the biotechnology as an assistant professor at the Korea University of Technology and Education.

Gregorio Romero received his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering degree from the Comillas Pontifical University (ICAI) in 1996 and his M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineer degree from the National Distance Education University (UNED) in 2000. After the analysis of ODE and DAE systems corresponding to multi-domain models, he was awarded his PhD Degree by the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) in 2005, the university in which he works as Associate Professor. Dr Ng works in a wide range of interdisciplinary experimental and computational projects, including chemical kinetics modelling of diesel/biodiesel combustion, biofuels production and combustion, engine testing, parallel processing and neural network analysis of engine performance/emissions, as well soil remediation using extraction and advanced oxidation processes (AOP). He has well over 80 publications to date in internationally refereed journals, conference proceedings, book chapters and books. He also serves on the editorial board of seven international journals, and have been appointed to various advisory panels and expert committees.  He has led a number of projects which are funded from a variety of sources including government organisations, industry and university. Dr Ng has also established various collaborations with both industrial and academic partners from a number of countries in Europe and Asia. various combustion systems, evaluation of biodiesel properties on materials
compatibility/engine durability, effects of additives on the efficiency of combustion systems,

feedstock. I am also involved in experimental projects to determine the effects of polycyclic
aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) emissions to the environment and the corresponding
remediation strategies, especially on contaminated soils.

Ghanem in research projects related to structural identification and control. On 1999 he is confirmed with tenure in the position of Assistant Professor at University of L\\\\Aquila. On 2000 he is visiting prof. C. Taylor and J. Macdonald at University of Bristol in order to start a collaboration on the research topic of cable-structure interaction in stayed system.
On June 2001 he becomes able to cover the role on Associate Professor in a public competition at University of Ancona. On March 2002 he became Associate Professor at University of L\\\\Aquila at the Engineering Faculty. On March 2005 he is confirmed with tenure in the position of Associate Professor at University of L\\\\Aquila. On March 2006 he is invited as lecturer at University of Porto and he is the international scientific consultant for the research group of prof. E. Caetano and A. Cunha in the project regarding the identification and monitoring of the International Guadiana Cable-Stayed Bridge.
Since 2005 he is coordinator of the research unit of University of L’Aquila within the RELUIS National project supported by Protezione Civile working on innovative systems for seismic protection of structures. Since December 2006 is acting as the general secretary of the three-years project SICON, financed by the European Community through the Marie Curie action in the 6th European Programme. In the same year he acts as coordinator of the DISAT research unit for a two-years National Project PRIN, on the subject of innovative identification and monitoring for structures. On 2008 he is a reviewer for the call PRIN 2007. He is currently strongly occupied in the institutional activities to support the recovering and reconstruction phases of the city of  L’Aquila, strongly struck by the April, 6 2009, earthquake. He is elected from the Department as representative of the civil engineering area in the research and managing board of the new research centre in earthquake engineering CERFIS (www.cerfis.it). He is the Research Delegate of the Director of the new Department of Civil, Construction-Architectural and Enviromental Engineering.
